I am an Organisation Development professional who set up and built a Sheffield-based consultancy company – IOD PARC – which supports organisations in the field of International Development. We are an employee-owned business which works with UN organisations, governments, charities and private companies to ensure aid interventions contribute to the reduction of poverty. My work has involved travelling to over 40 countries focused on a range of themes and sectors, including good governance, water and sanitation, peace and security and education. Prior to IOD PARC, I was a Principal Lecturer at Sheffield Business School in Organisational Behaviour and Change Management.
I became a parent governor at Silverdale as I wanted to better understand how my children’s education was being shaped, and to help support the effective management of the school. I hope that my professional experience helps bring a different perspective that allows me to be a ‘critical friend', providing constructive feedback where required and encouragement and support where possible.
I have been a Company Owner and Director for over twenty-five years and have a good understanding of finance, business and the challenges of leadership in organisations. My consultancy work includes a focus on supporting senior managers to develop and implement good governance and organisational structures and policy frameworks. I have worked in many cultural environments, which hopefully might help me appreciate the different perspectives and experiences different community members bring to Silverdale.
I am a passionate believer in state education and the benefits it can bring to all students. Good governance to me is about encouraging and supporting the school leadership to articulate and operationalise a vision for the school which allows students to learn with and from each other and to maximise their potential.
I’m a keen sports fan and still – just about – play competitive cricket and table tennis. I am captain of Hallam Cricket Club 3rd eleven and also played and coached hockey for Sheffield Hockey Club for many years. My sporting passion though, is supporting Bath Rugby, which is where I was born and brought up, before being lured up to Yorkshire and the Peak District. I also love the arts, particularly the Crucible Theatre and the Showroom Cinema and even took our guests there to watch a film on our wedding day!
